Panchayat Review: Warm, Funny, and Stronger Than It Looks on the Surface

Panchayat may look like a very simple village-based comedy at first, but what makes it stand out is how quietly observant and emotionally sharp it becomes over time. In my view, this is absolutely worth watching, especially if you prefer character-driven stories over plot-heavy drama.

The story follows Abhishek Tripathi, an engineering graduate who ends up working as a Panchayat secretary in a small village while preparing for better opportunities. What begins as a “temporary compromise” slowly turns into a deeper experience involving routine, relationships, responsibility, and a very different pace of life.

What actually works

The strongest part of Panchayat is its writing and tone. The show never tries too hard to be emotional or funny, which is exactly why both things land so well. The humor feels natural, the characters feel lived-in, and even small conversations carry weight. It understands how to make ordinary life interesting without exaggerating it.

One thing that stands out even more: the series becomes more effective as Abhishek slowly stops reacting to the village like an outsider and starts absorbing it in quieter, more personal ways — that shift gives the show its emotional core.

What feels weak

It is not a perfect series. Some viewers may find the pace too relaxed, especially if they are expecting strong plot progression in every episode. A few situations also rely more on charm than actual dramatic depth, which may not work equally for everyone.

Who should watch it

If you liked Gullak, Aspirants, or grounded slice-of-life dramas with humor and emotion, this should work extremely well for you. But if you want high stakes, suspense, or heavy conflict, this may feel too soft and understated.

Final verdict

My take: simple but excellent. What makes it memorable is not that anything huge happens, but that it understands people well enough to make small moments genuinely matter. It is one of the most naturally likable Indian series in recent years.
