Daredevil Review: Gritty, Character-Driven, and Still One of the Best Superhero Shows

Daredevil may look like just another superhero adaptation on paper, but what makes it stand out is how seriously it treats its characters, violence, and moral conflict. In my view, this is absolutely worth watching, especially if you prefer grounded superhero stories over flashy spectacle.

The story follows Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer who fights crime in Hell’s Kitchen as the vigilante Daredevil. What begins as a street-level justice story slowly expands into a larger conflict involving corruption, trauma, power, and the cost of trying to protect a broken city.

What actually works

The strongest part of Daredevil is its tone and character writing. The show understands that action only matters when the emotional stakes underneath it are real. Matt is not written like an untouchable hero — he gets hurt, makes mistakes, and constantly questions what kind of person he is becoming. The fight choreography is excellent, but the real strength is how much internal conflict sits behind every decision.

One thing that stands out even more: the show becomes truly memorable because Wilson Fisk is not treated like a generic villain — his presence feels personal, unsettling, and weirdly human in a way that makes the conflict far stronger.

What feels weak

It is not a perfect series. Some parts of the middle stretch can feel a little slow, and a few side plots are not as strong as the main conflict. If you are expecting nonstop action or a lighter comic-book tone, this may feel heavier than expected.

Who should watch it

If you liked The Boys, Punisher, or darker superhero dramas with strong writing, this should work very well for you. But if you prefer more colorful, fast-moving Marvel-style fun, this may feel more intense and serious than entertaining.

Final verdict

My take: dark and excellent. What makes it last is not just the action, but how well it understands pain, justice, and obsession beneath the mask. It is still one of the strongest superhero series made for streaming.
