Noragami may look like a light supernatural anime with comedy and action, but what makes it stand out is how naturally it balances humor, mythology, and emotional depth. In my view, this is absolutely worth watching, especially if you enjoy anime that mixes fun energy with surprisingly strong character writing.
The story follows Yato, a minor god who dreams of becoming famous and worshipped, but currently lives a very low-budget life doing odd jobs for five yen. His journey changes when he meets Hiyori and Yukine, and what begins as a quirky supernatural setup slowly turns into a story about loneliness, belonging, trauma, and identity.
What actually works
The strongest part of Noragami is its character chemistry. The show works because the main trio feels genuinely fun and emotionally believable together. It also does a great job of using Japanese mythology without making the world feel too heavy or inaccessible. The action is stylish, but the emotional moments are what really make it memorable.
One thing that stands out even more: Yato works as a character because beneath all the jokes and weirdness, the anime quietly shows how desperate he is to matter to someone — and that emotional need gives the series much more depth than expected.
What feels weak
It is not a flawless anime. One of the biggest frustrations is that the anime ends before adapting everything fans would want to see from the larger story. Some arcs also feel like they are building toward something even bigger that the anime version never fully reaches.
Who should watch it
If you liked Blue Exorcist, Mob Psycho 100, or supernatural anime with strong character dynamics, this should work very well for you. But if you want a fully complete story, the anime may leave you wanting more.
Final verdict
My take: fun and emotional. What makes it memorable is how effortlessly it moves from comedy to heartbreak without feeling forced. It is one of those anime that is much more emotionally satisfying than it first appears.
